Estate Cleanouts in Great Falls

Clearing a whole house, usually on somebody else's deadline, usually at a bad time.

Household items sorted into donation and disposal groups

Working to a closing date?

Tell us the date when you call. Most full-house clearings take one to three days and we schedule backwards from your deadline.

An estate cleanout is not a big junk removal job. It is a different job that happens to involve a truck. Somebody has died or moved into care, a house full of fifty years of belongings has to be empty by a date set by a realtor or a probate court, and the family is doing this while grieving and often from out of state.

What that changes in practice: we go slower, we sort instead of sweeping through, and we assume anything might matter until someone tells us otherwise. Paperwork, photographs, jewellery and documents get set aside and handed over, not judged by whether they looked valuable.

Out-of-State Families and Montana Winters

A large share of these calls come from adult children who live somewhere else. The parent stayed in Great Falls, the family did not, and now someone is trying to empty a house from Seattle or Minneapolis with a week of leave. We work that way often enough to have a routine for it: a video walkthrough before the quote, photographs of anything we are unsure about, and a decision list rather than a series of phone calls.

Winter adds a real constraint that surprises people. A house that has been sitting unheated since a death in November has frozen pipes as a live risk, and a cleanout is often the moment somebody first goes through the whole building. We are not plumbers, but we will tell you what we see - water staining, a cracked line, a furnace that is off - because finding it during the cleanout is a great deal cheaper than finding it at closing.

The other thing worth saying plainly: not everything is worth donating, and we will not pretend otherwise to make the job feel better. Thrift outlets here turn away stained upholstery, older console furniture and anything with a cracked frame. We take what they will genuinely accept and we are honest about the rest.

Common Questions

Can you do this if I'm not in Montana?

Yes, and a lot of our estate work runs that way. We do a video walkthrough, quote from it, and send photographs of anything we are not sure should be thrown out. You need someone local with a key, or an arrangement with the realtor.

What happens if you find something valuable?

It gets set aside and handed over. Documents, photographs, jewellery, firearms, cash - none of that leaves in the truck. If nobody is on site we photograph it and hold it until you tell us where it goes.

Do you buy anything, or take it in trade against the bill?

No. Buying estate contents and clearing them is a conflict of interest - the person valuing the piano should not be the person who profits from you undervaluing it. If there is real value we will tell you to call an estate sale company first.

How long does a full house take?

One to three days for most Great Falls houses. Heavily filled basements and detached garages are what stretch it, not the living space.

Talk through a cleanout

No pressure and no obligation. If an estate sale would serve you better, we'll say so.
